University Preparation Course 4 Main Points

  • (1) In this intensive language course, you will improve listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills all-round.
  • (2) We are committed to provide intensive instruction to improve your skills which are necessary for college or graduate school in Japan specifically for exams such as EJU (Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students), JLPT and entrance examinations.
  • (3) We will provide carrier support (support with application forms, administrations, interviews, essays, and research plans)
  • (4) We will provide additional and supplemental lectures on other subjects (English, Mathematics, and Science).

Basic level: Aiming to acquire basic Japanese language skills

It is normal that you cannot communicate with others in Japanese soon after you come to Japan. It is difficult to understand what native speakers are talking about. Thus, we will provide classes that focus on improving your listening and speaking skills as we prepare a lot of activities.
It is important to acquire certain amount of vocabulary and grammar rules in order to be able to communicate.
We are going to use not only the textbook “Minna no Nihongo” but also original or authentic materials that help you to understand.

  • At the end of Basic course, you will
  • acquire 2000 words
  • learn 150 grammar rules
  • master basic Kanji (N5 to N4 levels)
  • be able to communicate with native speakers using basic words
  • be able to deal with people and do some paper works at city hall and hospitals by yourself.
  • be able to write 200 to 400 words of essay
  • be able to understand Japanese cultures and customs and have no problems living in Japan.

Intermediate level: aiming to pass EJU or JLPT, and university entrance exams

In this level, you are at a turning point that you start thinking about future carrier after finishing this school since you have sufficient language ability to survive in japan.

The main text will be 「テーマ別 中級から学ぶ日本語」. This long seller textbook provides learners both Japanese language and cultures.

In order to make your carrier path and dream clear, we will have practice EJU and JLPT exams. After the practice exams and preparations, you will take the real exams outside of the school.

Because of the EJU exam structure, you will have writing practice. You will learn the proper methods of Japanese Essay writing and proper punctuations. Additionally, we will focus on teaching about critical thinking and justification of opinions.

In 記述問題(writing part on exams), you have to write logically. In order to have critical thinking skill, you need to improve reading skills first. Thus, we will train you to be able to read and understand longer and complex materials using sub materials. You also have practice to improve Kanji, vocabulary, grammar, and listening all-round with good balance.

  • At the end of Intermediate course, you will
  • be able to expand your community using Japanese, especially with native speakers.
  • acquire N3 to N2 levels of grammar, vocabulary, listening and reading skills
  • be able to write essays, research plans and more.
  • be able to explain things logically
  • be able to use dictionary and read simple literatures
  • be able to understand TV news
  • be able to give a speech in proper Japanese expressions
  • be able to listen to others’ opinions and also share your opinions with reasons

Advance level: Passing entrance exams and be able to understand technical terms

In this level, your goal is passing entrance exams for university or graduate school. In order to support your success, we will provide individual carrier support and make a plan for you.

The main textbook in this level will be 「テーマ別 上級で学ぶ日本語」. This book contains the theme of current society and its problems. You will able to discover new aspects of situations in Japan and Japanese cultures. Additionally, we will train your speaking ability, especially debating skills and opinion sharing skills, using TV news, documentary, and newspaper articles.

Of course, we will provide lessons for you to pass all kinds of Japanese language exams, focusing on grammar, vocabulary, kanji, and listening. Before graduating Towa International School, you will pass N2 or N1. That helps you to pursue your future education in university. We will prepare you to be able to understand lectures in university and to get ready to build good relationship with your future classmates at higher educational institute. We are committed to help you to improve your human skills so that you will understand Japanese and others as well.
